ASNY 2025 Retreat: Connecting, Collaborating, Creating
Let’s set off greatness, unleash our ideas, and combine as one!
The most recent New York SCORES (NYS) retreat was more than just a meeting—it was a day of alignment, collaboration, and future-shaping. From the Board of Directors and Junior Board members to coaches, Coaching for Change Academy and volunteers gathered to reconnect with our mission and vision for years to come.
“Just Breathe.”
Coach D, an experienced leader and coach in the mental hygiene sector, guided us through a valuable breathing and problem-solving exercise. The emphasis was to pause, breathe, and think clearly before tackling challenges by following four simple steps – identify the problem, brainstorm solutions, list joys, and symbolically release the issue – we practiced a formidable method for promoting transparency and positivity.
Vision for the Future
At the recent retreat, Executive Director John Riordan and Board Chair Adam Hall delivered a compelling presentation on NYS’ mission and achievements. Riordan opened the session by welcoming the attendees and acknowledging the diverse contributors to the organization’s success. He revisited NYS’s mission of empowering young people through soccer, poetry, and community service, emphasizing the organization’s key goals. The presentation underscored the significant impact NYS strives to have on the lives of youth and the broader community it serves.
The presentation provided an insightful overview not only of our current position but also of our future direction. It unveiled a compelling vision highlighting several exciting initiatives to expand program access, enhance the quality of our coaching and curriculum, and foster stronger relationships with schools and community organizations. It also addressed our strategic planning efforts, including an 18-month plan culminating in New York SCORES’ 25th anniversary in 2026, alongside a comprehensive 5-year strategic plan.
As our starting point, the presentation helped generate considerable interest and productive discussion, with attendees sharing valuable insight and perspectives on achieving these ambitious goals. The retreat reinforced our commitment to empowering youth and building stronger communities—the lead of a new chapter to explore in NYS’ story.

In closing, it’s important to remember that the path forward often involves three simple actions: Pause to breathe, think, and act. Embrace this trio, and you’ll find clarity in even the most chaotic moments.
